Donors Choose A Purposeful Project

01 Apr Donors Choose A Purposeful Project

As you know, here at Tim Levy & Associates we do our best to encourage, support and enable businesses and people to live and work in a more purposeful way. Of course that means a lot of different things to different people. Everyone has their own different sense of purpose.

Donors Choose Project / Panther Pals

One thing that we like to do is work with Donors Choose to support schools and children and teachers in their endeavors. Late in 2014 we ran into a project called ‘Panther Pals’ run by Ms. McCumber-Murphy over at Zilkha elementary school in Austin, Texas, which is nearby where we live.

A Helping Hand

In this particular case, what Ms. McCumber-Murphy was needing was really, honestly, an incredibly small amount of money to help her students participate in a mile long walk (to visit the residents of a local home for senior citizens). They needed water bottles, bingo cards and different resources to help make this particular project go well, so she put a project on We were able to fund the last piece of that and became part of the ‘Panther Pals’ project. What was terrific was that we had an opportunity to connect with Ms. McCumber-Murphy who sent us the following little email.

Thank you so much for contributing to our “Panther Pals” project. We will use the materials when we visit our friends at our nearby assisted living center. The residents love visiting with our first graders and will enjoy using the large print playing cards to play math games such as “Comparing Numbers.” The large print sight word bingo will allow students to practice their sight words with help from their pals. We can’t thank you enough for your generosity. Your contributions will improve the lives of 25 senior citizens and 17 first graders. Thank you so much!

And then –

Thank you so much for funding our project. The kids really enjoyed playing bingo and cards with their pals at the Barton Hills assisted living center. Our water bottles came in handy when we walked to the center and during class time, as well. Our friends at the assisted living center enjoyed seeing us each month and the students will always remember their pals. It was so generous of you to find our project. By supporting our class you helped the students learn a life lesson about helping others in need and making new friends.

That Warm and Fuzzy Feeling

The project was fully funded and we were able to support Ms. McCumber-Murphy and her class. I find it tremendously rewarding to think that what is a small amount of money for a business like ours can really do so much good. I am hoping that we will work with www, every month or so now, and encourage other businesses to do the same.

So – go to www, and see what you can find that’s a way of making a difference in your local community. We certainly do and it feels like the right thing to do.
